About the event

This spring, Frederick County Homesteaders is digging into something foundational: gut health, food preservation, and reclaiming the old skills that nourished families long before wellness became an industry.

As the frost finally loosens its grip and our gardens begin to wake up, we’re looking ahead to a season filled with local harvests, blooming fields, farm gatherings, and practical skills rooted in the traditions of the Shenandoah Valley. We’re excited to launch our new Gut Health & Fermentation Series — educational classes and hands-on workshops focused on nourishing wellness from the inside out through traditional foods like sauerkraut, kombucha, kimchi, fresh-milled flour, and sourdough. Simple foods. Powerful benefits. Skills every family can learn at home.

Gut Health & Fermentation Series: Kombucha Skill Share

Join Frederick County Homesteaders for the next class in our Gut Health & Fermentation Series as we dive into the world of kombucha, a refreshing fermented tea that has been enjoyed for centuries for its probiotic and digestive health benefits.

During this hands-on skill share, guests will learn the basics of brewing kombucha at home, how fermentation supports overall gut health, and why so many families are turning back to traditional foods and drinks to support wellness naturally. From understanding SCOBYs and fermentation cycles to flavoring and bottling techniques, this class is designed to make kombucha approachable and practical for beginners and seasoned homesteaders alike.

We’re excited to welcome Dr. Darrell of Active Health Chiropractic as our guest speaker for the evening. Drawing from both professional experience and a passion for holistic wellness, Dr. Darrell will share insights into the connection between gut health, inflammation, immunity, and overall well-being while guiding attendees through the process of creating this living, probiotic-rich beverage at home.

Date: Friday, June 12

Time: 6:30 PM-8:30PM

Location: TBA

Come ready to learn, ask questions, and connect with fellow homesteaders who are passionate about nourishing their families through simple, time-honored practices.
